Acoulatis user guide - Approximated field values

1. Information about the different options in the field-tab

In the approximated field values tab, you can calculate the approximated sound insulation value expected in the field. This tab is ideal for early stages to check if the construction you built can fulfil the target values in your project. We recommend that you check the construction in later stages in a software that calculates according to ISO 12345. We sell and manage the SOAB Database with close to 2000 constructions that works with the ISO 12354 software: BASTIAN, CadnaB and SONArchitect.

Start by selecting the requirements in your project, both the index and the target value. When evaluating the sound insulation between two rooms, you will have a separating or common area that you can enter in the calculations, along with the volume for one of the rooms (usually the smaller room). For some indices, the target value can be different depending on the direction, so it is good to check both directions. If you have a standard or premium subscription, you can also select junction types, please read more about this under sections 3 and 4. If you have a light version, detailed flanking is not taken into account in this calculation, but we take general flanking into account. The calculated values can therefore be "too" good in a finished building depending on the flanking sound transmission, but also depending on other transmission paths like a door, a glas partition or via installations.

2. Description of the colours

​​

We have three different colours that indicates if the construction is able to fulfill the set requirement. Green means that there is a good margin to requirement. Yellow means that the construction could work but it needs to be investigated in more detail. Red means that the construction would most likely not work for the set requirements.

3. General information about the calculations

​​

The approximated field value is calculated with some margin.

 

If flanking is selected, calculations use a rectangular room with two flanking massive element walls (same material as the chosen massive element in the structure), one lightweight interior wall, and one exterior lightweight wall. Resilient interlayers are used together with the massive elements. The flanking calculations affects only the airborne sound insulation since the impact sound insulation is very dependent on the build-up of the direct path.

Please observe that calculations of the approximated field values are not following the ISO 12354 series. For instance, the approximation is not taking the flanking paths of the separating element into account. For more detailed calculations of flanking sound transmission, please use our SOAB Database together with an ISO 12354 software, e.g. BASTIAN, CadnaB or SONArchitect.

4. Details regarding the junctions

​​

All modules and subscription plans can use the general flanking junction type. This junction type takes a bit of margin from the calculated laboratory value, depending on how high sound insulation is calculated.

For a few modules, like single massive element wall and floor, there is an option for standard and premium subscription plans to choose more junction types. Theses junction types are based on vibration reduction index (Kij) measurements in the field in real buildings when the structural elements are visible (during production). Thus, calculations with these junction types can differ from Kij measurements in a laboratory.
